Safe Community Accreditation

The City of Monroe is close to completion of its application for Safe Community Accreditation through the National Safety Council! The Safe Community designation is a community driven coalition that prioritizes safety by bringing people together to improve the quality of life for everyone in the community. Accreditation is awarded to communities that show continuous dedication to the safety of all residents through innovative and effective prevention programs.

If approved, the City of Monroe would become the 20th community in the United States with such a distinction. The application is being managed by the Fire Chief and several programs have already been adopted by the City such as:

  • All City staff trained in
    • CPR
    • First-Aid
    • Automated external defibrillator (AED) use
  • AEDs placed in all City operated buildings and the police cruisers
  • The first trial Community Paramedic Program operating in the State of Ohio

New initiatives will be rolled out over the course of 2016 so keep an eye out for new services.
