Street Lights

Electric service for the City of Monroe is provided by Duke Energy.  In 2016, City Council passed an ordinance that allows for a street light fee to be charged on the monthly utility bills.  The monthly fee that is charged is calculated by taking the total dollar amount charged to the City (by Duke Energy) divided by the total number of utility accounts.

Utility accounts that are billed for multiple unit dwellings are billed by multiplying the street light rate times the number of units serviced on the utility account.

Street light charges are adjusted every January based on an analysis of the prior year's total cost.
