State Route 63 and Lawton Avenue Reconstruction Project

The City of Monroe will be making substantial improvements to the intersection of State Route 63 and Lawton Avenue beginning the week of August 16, 2021 and lasting through early November, 2021.  This project involves infrastructure, drainage and utility work including the replacement of the water main within the construction zone, replace and extend a drainage culvert and add a right turn lane with a dedicated left turn lane from Lawton Avenue to State Route 63.  There will also be a through right turn lane added on State Route 63 from American Way to Lawton Avenue.  New traffic signal poles will be added at the intersection of American Way and State Route 63.

During this construction, traffic will be reduced on Lawton Avenue to one lane and a temporary traffic light will be in place on Lawton Avenue.  Traffic will be maintained at all times.  We advise that emergency response agencies may seek alternate routes around the intersection of State Route 63 and Lawton Avenue during this project.  Traffic delays on State Route 63 are expected to be significant during rush hour traffic.
