The summer sewer credit program is authorized by Butler County Water & Sewer Department to give homeowners a break on their sewer bill for outdoor watering activities such as filling up pools or watering for new sod during the summer months. This credit will be applied automatically to the bills during the months of July – November (which is for June – October usage).
The City of Monroe will calculate your average winter usage from bills during the months of December – April (which is for November – March usage.) Your summer sewer usage will then be capped not exceed the average amount calculated from the winter months.
If there is no history to calculate your winter average, the base usage used for the summer sewer credit will be 6,000 gallons.
Summer sewer credits are only permitted during the period starting with your May meter reading and ending with your October meter reading. If you filled your pool or watered your lawn before your May meter reading or after the October reading, then unfortunately we will not be able to provide a sewer adjustment.
For this reason, we highly recommend that if you plan on any outdoor water usage before May or after October to please phone the Utility Billing Office to find out if the usage will be included in the summer sewer credit period.
If you had to refill your pool because of a pump issue or because there was a hole in the liner, then we may be able to adjust your sewage due to the problem being considered a leak event. Please complete our online Bill Adjustment Request Form to find out if you are eligible for an adjustment.
